We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Engineer to join Lockheed Martin UK. The role will serve as the Technical Lead and primary focal point for the customer on the Merlin Helicopter Programmes.

Specific tasks will include:

  • Initially act as deputy to the Merlin Chief Engineer while acquiring DAOS signatory approval.
  • Act as senior Engineering participant at Key Crowsnest technical meetings, as a technical reviewer, including IPT Leadership weekly, SEIT, Schedule Reviews, Proposal Reviews, Risk Reviews, CCB, Programme Integration Team Working Group and IPT Meetings.
  • Leading Tiger Teams to resolve specific issues at a system level in support of Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads, to include recommending where Tiger Teams are needed.
  • Conducts briefings and technical meetings for Senior management, customer, government and vendor representatives. Interacts with equivalent and senior level management concerning matters of great significance to the company.
  • Act as the point of escalation for engineering problems across the Merlin Franchise.
  • System Requirements: Provide leadership to requirements management activities and system engineering tools/infrastructure activities, including evolution of the capability from requirements definition into qualification.
  • Airworthiness: Chief Engineer signatory and reviewer of airworthiness documentation.
  • Safety engineering: Chief Engineer signatory and reviewer to system safety activities and ensure coherence between the safety case and the design.
  • Security engineering: Chief Engineer signatory and reviewer to system security activities and ensure coherence between the security plans and the design.
  • Software engineering: Chief Engineer signatory and reviewer to system software activities coherent with wider system engineering tasks.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Proven experience as a signatory for Military Aviation Authority (MAA) Design Authority Organisation Scheme (DAOS) or civil equivalent within a rotary or fixed wing programme:
  • A proven track record as a major technical contributor on successful programmes.
  • Performed effectively in a significant System Engineering role on engineering programmes across the requirements definition, design, development, integration, test and delivery lifecycle.
  • Proven success of leading and motivating a team of professional engineers.
  • Excellent customer and vendor relationship management.
  • Significant analytical and creative ability and proven judgement in balancing conflicting demands, priorities, risks and uncertainties. Ability to assess information and make rapid decisions.
  • Strong system/business skills and knowledge are important for this role, as is the ability to learn and assess systems and processes quickly and effectively.

Desired skills, qualifications and experience

  • Be an excellent team player, and be a model of Lockheed Martin Full Spectrum Leadership requirements.
  • Advanced degree highly desirable
  • To be fully conversant with Lockheed Martin BMS and engineering and be proactive in the continuous process improvement programme.
