Product Safety & Environmental Lead - Electronic Warfare Systems

Would you like to be involved with one of the most challenging programmes ever undertaken by the Royal Navy? We currently have a vacancy for a Product Safety & Environmental Lead - Electronic Warfare Systems to join our Combat Systems business at our site in either New Malden or Broad Oak, Portsmouth.

Our Combat Systems form the "brains" of complex warships, and we are involved in the design, development, integration and provision of support that enable navies to protect nations. We provide a range of combat system products and services that support ships throughout their lives, working with our customers to ensure they can respond to ever-evolving maritime threats.

As a Product Safety & Environmental Lead - Electronic Warfare Systems, you will be responsible for leading the Product Safety and Environmental management of Electronic Surveillance (ES) and Electronic Warfare Command and Control (EWC2) equipment, collaborating with the end user, key stakeholders and partners to achieve certification of all aspects of the delivery and support production of the overall System of Systems Safety Case. This will include working alongside the various engineering teams to identify solutions to any emergent physical and functional Product Safety issues and managing the various Product Safety & Environmental artefacts required to support these activities.

This demanding role will provide you with a unique opportunity to be involved in the evolution of electronic warfare solutions, focusing on the most complex Combat System development the Royal Navy has taken in the last 40 years. Your main responsibilities as a Product Safety & Environmental Lead - Electronic Warfare Systems will involve:

Successfully delivering the Electronic Warfare, System of Systems, development, manufacturing and acceptance, Product Safety & Environmental programme to quality, cost and schedule

Creating, maintaining and working to the Product Safety and Environmental Management Plan, addressing but not limited to, legislative compliance, hazard identification, risk analysis, environmental impact assessment, roles and responsibilities and schedule

Selecting and executing the most appropriate and recognised hazard identification, analysis and risk classification / reduction techniques to derive System of Systems and Product Safety requirements

Facilitating and chairing Hazard Identification meetings

Developing and maintaining Hazard Logs using relevant tools

Creating Bow-Tie diagrams

Managing residual risk using 'ALARP' principles

Developing Product Safety & Environmental arguments for the complex System of Systems products (including software) sometimes from first principles

Summarising the Product Safety Case using Goal Structuring Notation and delivering a robust and coherent System of Systems, Product Safety and Environmental Case

Facilitating Product Safety and Environmental Committee meetings and working groups

Representing Product Safety and Environmental Engineering at committees and working groups

Acting as the customer point of contact for all aspects of Product Safety & Environmental within the Project

Your skills and qualifications as a Product Safety & Environmental Lead - Electronic Warfare Systems:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification and experience in a STEM subject

Knowledge of and experience in Naval Product Safety and Product Environmental Management System processes and implementation thereof

Understanding of Defence Product Safety and Environmental policies and standards

Experience in building and presenting safety case arguments

Proven ability to work under pressure, whilst maintaining effective and efficient management of priorities and deadlines

Understanding of complex Naval System of Systems architectures

Desirable:

Chartered membership of a relevant professional institute

Electronic warfare System of Systems engineering background

Knowledge of artificial intelligence and associated Product Safety issues
