Sterling Power are looking to recruit an adaptable Software Engineer within their market leading electronic product company, which specialises in electronic power systems. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, but highly competitive company, which has already been recognised by the Queen’s Award for Engineering and which helps define the face of usable power.

The successful candidate will find themselves challenged to innovate on a daily basis and do their part in keeping the company on the competitive edge of a rapidly evolving sector, quickly and proudly seeing their innovations and developments put to market.

THE ROLE:
As an Software Engineer you will be required to:

  • Create and take responsibility for the technical delivery and continued support of multiple software based projects and their assimilation into electrical design products
  • Interpret specifications when theorising projects and support the realisation of said projects
  • Be the main point of contact and consultation for software inquiries when regarding and developing new products
  • Take ownership and pride in your work, liaising closely with management, in order to finalise projects in a fair timeframe
  • Have sufficient technical knowledge and capability to understand, adapt to and learn new concepts and principles under and alongside our Senior Design Engineer
  • Amend and improve existing software on previous product lines
  • Understand the fundamentals of power electronics in software and appreciate the concepts in hardware
  • Research and develop new innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Continually learn and adapt to keep up with the competitive market environment
  • Communicate adequately and thoroughly with the rest of the project team regarding processes and developments within projects
  • Be able to operate within a closely knit and complimentary team, yet also have the ingenuity and personal drive to work independently.
  • Implement embedded software to drive, control and organise power electronic components
  • Understand low-level electronics and be able to trace schematics as required during software debugging and testing
  • Sufficiently write and test your own code to specification


THE CANDIDATE:
The ideal Electrical Design Engineer should have:

  • Degree education or an HNC in Software Engineering
  • Complete comprehension, fluency and innovation within C based coding languages
  • Appreciation of MISRA.
  • Experience with software architecture design, component identification and interface definition
  • Experience of test procedures, methods and equipment
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels
  • An adaptable mind to overcome unexpected obstacles

The candidate will benefit heavily if they are:

  • Knowledgeable of relevant electronics hardware and product design process
  • Experienced with DC/DC, AC/DC or DC/AC switch mode power supply systems
  • Familiar with other programming languages
  • Experienced with communication protocols such as CAN, I2C, SPI and LIN
  • Experienced with Model Based Software Development using Matlab/Simulink
  • Competent with AutoCAD
  • Experienced with Bluetooth compliant software and associated hardware
  • Experienced with Android and iOS app design
  • Experienced in developing and finishing products for a commercial purpose
  • Knowledgeable in power electronics for marine, automotive or security environments
