Job Details

We are responsible for maintaining and upgrading 13,000 km of overhead power lines and more than 44,000 km of underground electricity cables and much more. This covers the diverse communities between the beautiful Lake District landscapes to the bustling city of Manchester and all the wonderful towns and villages located in-between. Our network in the North West is one of the most reliable in the country and we are investing £1.9bn by 2023 to ensure we continue to deliver an excellent, safe and affordable service to all our customers.

Within Electricity North West, Energy Solutions is responsible for all new customer connections. We manage the end to end process providing our customers with new connections on the existing network for High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) quotes for both demand and generation schemes.

We are currently looking for a professional Bid Engineer to join our Infrastructure Solutions team. We are looking for individuals who will work in partnership with our delivery partners, consultants and customers and can assess the customer requirements and adapt to change.

Our Role

As a Bid Engineer you will manage the application process, generate and issue estimates for project quotes in line with our regulatory requirements. You will liaise directly with our customers from first contact regarding the production of 11KV and 33KV quotes, which are priced based on specific customer requirements. Managing and providing an excellent customer experience throughout the process.

You will carry out all estimates to comply with performance and regulatory reporting, supporting the delivery of bid strategies across the team which focus on the growth of market share and a greater win work focus. You will work closely with and support the Project Manager, looking for innovative and continuous improvement opportunities.

You will be expected to develop and maintain strong relationships throughout the business, engaging and influencing internal and external stakeholders.

We are looking for a candidate with experience within the utility / infrastructure sector, however, experience working in the construction or industrial sectors will also be considered. Ideally you will have regulatory experience and be experienced in estimating and bid win strategy, however, strong candidates with just the latter will be considered. Experience in the delivery of 11KV and 33KV projects or working within the regulated utility market would be an advantage.

About you

You will have strong client management and negotiation skills and be commercially aware and cost consciousness. Ideally you will have a Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or another technical subject, however, candidates with significant relevant experience will be considered.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills, along with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office are essential for this role. You will be preparing external facing customer reports and letters and as such your presentation skills and attention to detail will be key.

We are happy to consider applications from candidates for this role who would like to be considered on a development basis, who demonstrate the key aspects of customer management and an understanding of the connections regulatory regime and experience of estimating 11KV and 33KV projects.

As part of the Recruitment & Selection process Electricity North West carries out pre-employment screening to aid in the assessment and overall suitability of an individual to perform a role. If offered a conditional offer of employment you will be required to provide us with additional information to allow us to perform checks in line with our policy.

We don't accept speculative CVs from agencies. Any received we will assert ownership of the candidate and no fee will be payable.
