Who are we looking for?
We have an excellent opportunity for an Electronics Engineer to join a team of circa 55 employees and be responsible for the maintenance, repair and provision of upgrades/refurbishments to major parts of the pulsed power supplies plant on the JET or MAST-U Tokamaks as a Plant Responsible Officer (PRO).
You will be able to demonstrate an ability to apply technical expertise and manage complicated and/or extensive tasks involving others. You will have previous experience in preparing safety documentation including risk assessments, method statements and using a formal permit system for work on complex, hazardous electrical plant. You must have experience of high hazard industrial working environment due to the nature of our work at UKAEA.
What will you be responsible for?
- Supporting very large, complex, high hazard power supply equipment that is critical to the operation of JET and MAST-U tokamaks
- Becoming a technical expert for sections of the plant managing operation, availability, reliability and safety
- Proposing and leading refurbishment and enhancements to the plant
- Mentoring less experienced colleagues and assisting with training
- Liaising with other control room staff and the power supplies shift team as required
Essential skills, experience and competences required:
- Background in electronics and demonstrable ability to apply technical expertise and manage complex tasks
- An honours degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline or other equivalent and relevant qualifications. A lower qualification level may be accepted where there is significant demonstrable experience beyond the minimum below
- Experience of high hazard industrial working environments
- Significant experience in component, sub-system and system level fault finding of these systems
Desirable skills, experience and competences:
- High Voltage experience would be an advantage
