The Opportunity! An opportunity has arisen in an agile and responsive team for an engineer to work across the entire product life cycle on a number of weapon systems collaborating with other functions and senior leaders across MBDA.
In Environmental Engineering, our project teams are integral within all land, sea and air based weapons system projects. Environmental Project engineers provide a key technical focal point for all stages of the product lifecycle, from concept definition and product development, through design aid and formal qualification, and into in-service support. Expertise covers the areas of: requirements specification and management; data analysis; simulation and modelling; and testing in climatic, mechanical (vibration and shock), structural mechanical and fatigue.
We are looking for someone:
  • Ideally educated to degree level or with strong experience in running projects in a laboratory environment.
  • Working experience of Environmental Engineering, ideally within the defence sector
  • Has a detailed understanding of vibration, shock, temperature and humidity environments
  • Understanding of environmental test processes, test measurements and instrumentation
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Effective at working in teams with strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong ability to push through the right technical solution.
  • Driven, self-motivated and proactive in leading programmes of work

The Role!
  • Work closely and build relationships with a range of MBDA functions, sectors and Chief Engineers including Systems Engineering, Architecture, Design and Proving teams, you'll apply specialist technical knowledge and provide advice to projects, with responsibility for delivery of technical aspects of data analysis activities.
  • You will provide technical expertise in generating environmental requirements, developing robust product designs and defining and managing efficient test strategies throughout the product development cycle. You will work closely with our existing team of experienced project and test engineers to define and manage test programmes.
  • Interact with customers in the delivery of data analysis tasks or technical work packages, including data gathering trials and assessments, platform integration activities, and structural modal assessment, ensuring delivery to the required quality, timescale and budget.
  • Plan, deliver and monitor assigned work packages, making engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority to ensure requirements are delivered to plan.
Some of the key challenges for the role include:
  • Effectively dealing with multiple issues, tasks and priorities concurrently, cross-projects.
  • Interaction with the customer community at a high level, maintaining integrity of engineering outputs.
  • Contributing to EE&F strategy to keep pace with emerging technologies and threats.
