Would you like to be a part of an exciting opportunity to join a growing team of emergency response and contingency planning professionals? We currently have a vacancy for a Head of Emergency Planning & Organisational Resilience at our site in Barrow in Furness.

As the Head of Emergency Planning & Organisational Resilience you will be responsible for delivering world-leading emergency planning, fire & rescue and business continuity services to our Submarines business. Working as part of our leadership team, you will have three direct reports; Working as part of our leadership team, you will have three direct reports; the Business Continuity Manager, Senior Emergency Planning Manager and the Chief Fire Officer, as well as oversight of 160 indirect reports within the teams. You will be reporting directly to the Head of Security, Fire & Resilience Department.

The aim of the department is to enable the safe, secure and resilient delivery or the Submarines mission and allow us to respond to any incident in a swift, combined and co-ordinated manner.

This role will provide you with personal and professional development and the ability to shape the future of the business to delivery out future. As a key member of the company's Senior Leadership Team you will have the opportunity to help deliver the changes and improvements required to help the business become the world's leading platform builder, and delivery world class submarines for HM Royal Navy.

Your main responsibilities as a Head of Emergency Planning & Organisational Resilience will involve:

Developing and implementing emergency planning, fire prevention, emergency response and business continuity strategy, policy, governance and management in line with the global strategy and industry good practice

Supporting the organisation in achieving its goals and to protect BAE Systems, its people, infrastructure, information and assets, as well as the interests of its shareholders and customers, and to fulfil legal obligations

Being responsible for the management of compliance with business, customer and regulatory requirements including consultation with key stakeholders involved in provision of all emergency planning, fire prevention, emergency response and business continuity delivery for BAE Systems submarines business

Leading, motivating and mentoring a diverse functional team, setting objectives, reviewing performance and participating in selection/promotion decisions to ensure that staff have the necessary skills and understanding to deliver the team's objectives

Identifying threats, hazards and risks and developing mitigation strategies for the business area in accordance with the organisation´s emergency planning, fire prevention, emergency response, and business continuity and risk management framework

Providing intelligence and analysis of threats and risks, as well as providing timely advice on the operating environment to the senior leadership team to enable well-informed business decisions

Identifying external business opportunities to leverage emergency planning, fire prevention, emergency response and business continuity capability and deliver business propositions

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a related discipline such as emergency planning, fire prevention fire & rescue or emergency response business continuity

Demonstrable senior management experience within an emergency service (or closely related) environment

In-depth knowledge of government and industry-standard emergency planning, fire prevention, emergency response and business continuity policy, standards and best practice guidance

Experience in managing teams to achieve high level results

Desirable

Membership of sector related professional bodies

You will possess excellent stakeholder management skills, with a track record of communicating at senior leadership level across multiple businesses areas. You will also possess pragmatic decision-making skills, as well as the ability to influence others and build effective working relationships. Leadership, coaching and mentoring skills will also be key to success in this role.

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
