Senior Engineer/Engineer - Human Factors

Would you like to be involved in in the early concept work of our future fighter jet programme, where you will play a vital role as a Human Factors (HF) specialist for military aircraft products and services? We currently have a number of vacancies for a Senior Engineer/Engineer in our Human Factors Shared Service at our site in Warton.

As a Senior Engineer/Engineer - Human Factors, you will be working on complex, innovative and world leading projects such as Tempest and Typhoon. You will be working alongside other functions such as simulation, crew systems and our aircrew to help design future cockpits and support services such as maintenance and training, undertaking cutting edge research into new and novel technologies, developing Human Machine Interfaces and carrying out assessments in high fidelity facilities.

The role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved in early concept design, to be innovative and to help shape our future, working closely with our customers and a variety of multidisciplinary stakeholders, with great opportunities for progression within the team or wider business.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer/Engineer - Human Factors will involve:

Applying Human Factors knowledge to help conduct a variety of HF activities including research, design, development and assessments.

Utilising Human Factors tools and techniques, (e.g. questionnaires, workload measures, usability techniques etc.)

Undertaking Task Analysis - breaking down operator tasks to identify issues with design, systems, processes, and identify opportunities for error prevention

Planning and conducting User Trials and HF assessments of the developing design, optimising user interaction

Leading technical HF activities such as the design and development of a human machine interface design incorporating novel technologies

Applying Human Factors processes and standards (e.g. Def Stan 00-251)

Mentoring, guiding and potentially direct line management of other Human Factors practitioners

Managing Human Factors technical related activities including budget and resource management and stakeholder engagement (this will increase as the level of seniority increases)

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Human Factors/Ergonomics/Psychology

Previous experience with Human Factors requirements, derivation and management

Previous experience of application of relevant Human Factors Standards e.g. Def Stan 00-251

Experience in leading human factors assessments

Previous experience with reviewing and producing high quality human factor reports

Experience in presenting information to a wide variety of stakeholders

Desirable:

Previous background in defence or aerospace sector

Chartered Engineer or membership of a recognised professional body e.g. CIEHF

Experience with providing Human Factors advise to large complex projects

Experience in applying the Human Factors Integration process (Def Stan 00-251)

Experience in technical management and people management
