Would you like to play a critical role in the delivery and transformation of In-Service Support for submarine Systems? We currently have an opportunity for a Head of Submarine Support to join our team in either Filton or Barrow-in-Furness.
As Head of Submarine Support, you will be responsible for a portfolio of Submarine Support projects which span future submarine sustainment to in-service support of the Royal Navy's submarine flotilla.
You will be a key member of the leadership team, working collaboratively to accelerate programme performance in delivering submarine capability and providing an exciting work environment for our colleagues.
Reporting to the Programme Director accountable for Integrated Combat Systems and Submarine Support, you will be charged with transforming the way we deliver support and availability contracts to ensure we are continuously adding value for the customer.
This newly created role will provide you with the opportunity to shape the way we provide in-service support for a range of submarine systems, working at both an operational and strategic level. The role will also provide a great platform for high potential Engineering Leadership talent to continue to develop professionally, whilst providing critical support to the delivery on existing programmes and to the strategic growth opportunities arising out of Submarine Support campaigns.
Your main responsibilities as Head of Submarine Support will involve:
Leadership of the Submarine Support Team comprising c180 staff and executives across multiple locations and functions including engineering, project management and supply chain
Oversight of a complex portfolio of projects and services ensuring appropriate application of corporate programme governance and project management arrangements
Operating as the recognised Technical Authority for our In-Service Engineering provision you will play a key role in developing and strengthening relationships within MoD Engineering Authorities and in the operational arm of the Royal Navy
Ensuring that any products or services provided under contracts meet our contractual and legal requirements
Providing effective senior team leadership, communications, employee engagement and development
Maintaining a safe, vibrant and exciting work environment for our colleagues
Representing BAE Systems Submarine Support business area into the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), In-service Submarines Project Team (ISM) and Platform Equipment Delivery Team (PEDT)
Maintaining and developing close customer and industry partner relationships whilst operating effectively in a collaborative Submarine Enterprise environment to deliver submarine availability and capability outcomes including reactive support to the Submarine Enterprise
Engaging effectively across BAE Systems Submarines in support of adjacent programme, Submarine Support and wider business objectives as required
Representing BAE Systems Submarine Support at a Maritime level and into wider corporate forums
Ensuring excellence in bid responses meeting customer and business expectation
Your skills and qualifications as Head of Submarine Support:
Demonstrable experience operating within a support/ technical service environment
Strong leadership background with proven track record of programme delivery
Chartered (or equivalent qualifications or experience)
Experience defining support strategy within a complex engineering industry, such as maritime, aerospace, land vehicles, Navy (or closely related domain)
Experience operating in a complex stakeholder environment
Experience operating within the submarine in-service environment
Detailed understanding of UK Nuclear Submarines, their support requirements, operational demands, regulatory controls, Royal Navy end users, enterprise construct, infrastructure demands, nuclear propulsion architecture and wider Defence Line of Development (DLoD) construct
Current or readily generated relationships with the in-service Submarine MoD, Royal Navy and Industry community

You will be a confident leader, with the ability to demonstrate effective negotiation skills, as well as a clear vision for maintaining the highest standards of engineering practice in-service. You will set the direction of the function, whilst positively influencing key stakeholders across Submarine Support and MoD Customer communities.
