Engineer - Technical Publications - Illustrator

Would you like to work for an organisation that has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineer - Technical Publications - Illustrator at our site in Barrow in Furness.

As an Engineer - Technical Publications - Illustrator, you will be responsible for creating Technical Illustrations using various software to support multiple long-term projects.

This role will provide you with the opportunity of working on long term major projects in the growing Illustration Team responsible for creating technical illustrations within the larger Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) department.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineer - Technical Publications - Illustrator will involve:

Providing input and support to the Senior Engineer (Illustrator) to aid in the production and management of Technical Illustrations for both current and future projects within the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) department

Creating and amending a wide range of Technical Illustrations and System Diagrams to update the Technical Publications in-line with Programme requirements

Interpreting technical data including (but not limited to) drawings, manufacturers handbooks and design safety information

Your skills and qualifications as an Engineer - Technical Publications - Illustrator:

Essential:

HNC, HND, Degree in Technical Illustration/Graphics or equivalent experience

Full working knowledge and technically proficient in illustrating tool sets such as (but not limited to) ISODraw to create Computer Graphics Metafiles (CGM)

Ability to work with multiple and varied sources of information to create technical illustrations and system diagrams to a common specification

Desirable:

Experience of working in a Technical Publications Department, Manufacturing or ILS team environment

Competent with Microsoft products to a level applicable to the role, especially Word, Access and Excel

Full understanding of the use of user guides and standards relating to illustration production

Working knowledge of ISO Draw and Broadvision Quicksilver illustrating software packages

You will be a proactive problem solver who is driven to produce high quality illustrations with a high attention to detail. You will also demonstrate strong communications skills with the ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders effectively.
