Principal Engineer - Instrumentation and Calibration

Would you like to be involved in developing bespoke instrumentation solutions to support the construction of a unique product? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Instrumentation and Calibration at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer - Instrumentation and Calibration Engineer, you will be working within the Instrumentation & Calibration Services Department as part of the Specialist Engineering Capability Group (SETCG) within BAE Systems Submarines. We provide instrumentation and calibration services to the Barrow site, MoD and commercial sector, mainly working across advanced submarine programmes including Dreadnought and Astute.

This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to focus on the instrument development and maintenance of current instrumentation systems, working with a diverse team of engineers including Software, Hardware and Physicists across the business and across the full project lifecycle. Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Instrumentation and Calibration will involve:

Supporting, developing and maintaining bespoke software and electronic instrumentation systems

Working within a team to design new systems, software, circuits and devices or develop existing technologies to meet customer requirements

Analysing requirements from various projects to ensure solutions meet requirements and acceptance criteria

Writing requirement captures, specifications, and technical reports

Assisting with obsolescence reviews on existing instrumentation software and electronic systems

Following quality processes for project planning, configuration control and acceptance testing for development of instrumentation

Managing a small team of engineers with various levels of experience developing systems and instrumentation

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer - Instrumentation and Calibration:

Supporting, developing and maintaining bespoke software and electronic instrumentation systems

You will possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully build relationships with external customers, as well as internal stakeholders. You must also have good problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to bring innovation. You will be self-motivated and able to work without supervision or as part of a team when required.
