Would you like to play a key role in delivering Submarines programmes for the UK Royal Navy? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer - Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), you will be supporting our ongoing submarine programmes including Dreadnought and Astute, conducting EMC qualification and testing throughout the engineering lifecycle from concept through to in-service support.

This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to work within our purpose built, state of the art test facility and to help develop and support this through the accreditation process.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) will involve:

Undertaking and documenting functional design and analysis to support compatibility with the project/product electromagnetic environment

Determining and executing the Electromagnetic control measures to be implemented throughout the project/product design with respect to the specified requirements

Providing advice and guidance to our customers, suppliers and system/product engineers as necessary to achieve the design aims of the project

Identifying and implementing opportunities for personal and team development to ensure that professional capability of the business and individual are maintained and improved

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer - Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC):

Essential:

Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent qualification or experience

Experience in design for EMC

Significant experience in EMC fault diagnostics and rectification

Understanding of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EC) regulations

Desirable:

Professional registration at Chartered level or evidence of work towards this

Experience in gaining UKAS Accreditation

Previous design experience within Defence sector

Experience leading/mentoring more junior members of a team

You will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, confident working collaboratively with the wider team when required. The ability to proactively problem-solve is key to the success of this role.

Maritime - Submarines
