Senior Hardware Engineer

Would you like to play a key role within our Product Training team? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Hardware Engineer at our site in Portsmouth Broad Oak.

As a Senior Hardware Engineer, you will be producing hardware design including supporting bid and estimating activities and the build, installation and commissioning of COTS (Commercial off the shelf) hardware systems.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to support future business opportunities and support Maintenance of hardware at our Broad Oak site, whilst providing day-to-day mentoring and technical oversight of Hardware Support Engineers.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Hardware Engineer will involve:

Produce detailed designs of hardware implementations from top level designs

Specify and initiate procurement of hardware and manage receipt of deliveries and onward despatch as well as controlled transfer documentation

Provide hardware design input to bids and studies

Provide second line support to service delivery, investigating hardware issues and providing solutions, where required, to maintain system availability

Manage obsolescence issues on project hardware

Manage the configuration control of the hardware items within the Hardware Management System tool

Undertake the creation of installation, modification and commissioning procedures relating to newly installed hardware

Installing, commissioning and modifying Hardware items at Broad Oak and at site as required

Liaison with the Ministry of Defence Site Coordinating Installation Design Authority (SCIDA) to ensure that installations and modifications at site comply with their governance

Provide day-to-day mentoring and technical support to the Hardware Support Engineer

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Breadth of knowledge and experience of hardware Systems Development Lifecycle on complex systems

Ability to understand requirements to derive hardware requirements and to create hardware solutions to meet the requirements.

Create technical specifications in response to requirements

Ability to install and maintain hardware, including networks, in a large complex multi-site facility.

Knowledge and experience of IT tools, businesses approaches, practices and procedures including the standards for governance and compliance

Desirable:

Knowledge and experience with COTS hardware; this includes cabinets, cabinet design, wiring schedules and power distribution

You will be confident in working on your own jobs and be able to fit this into the work of the project, service delivery and engineering teams. You will also be able to investigate and propose solutions to any hardware issues.
