Principal Engineer - Power & Propulsion

We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Power & Propulsion at our site in Scotstoun.

As a Principal Engineer - Power and Propulsion, you will be providing specialist mechanical knowledge and experience into the design and assessment of general arrangements of the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) warship. You will be dealing with an international customer community, bringing together related aspects required to enable the in-country ship build.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work as part of an integrated project team on a high-profile international project. You will be supporting the build of the Type 26 Derivative for the Canadian Navy and gain exposure to a high calibre of internal and external stakeholders. You will gain the opportunity to develop your career towards a technical authority or engineering manager position within the business.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Power & Propulsion will involve:

Development and analysis of the CSC propulsion design, including trend identification and recommended actions to take

Participating fully in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need

Producing technical information packages and design assurance packages

Producing and reviewing design proposals, technical specifications, and review contract of deliverables

Producing and reviewing design calculations as required

Supporting physical integration reviews for equipment and compartment maturity

Your skills and qualifications:


Experience in one of the following areas i.e. rotating machinery design, torsional vibration analysis, gearbox and or shaft line design and integration

Degree or equivalent experience within a relevant engineering subject

Technical specification writing experience

Previous experience of producing engineering calculations

Chartered engineer with a relevant professional body or willing to work towards this

Experience working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders


Experience with the full ship build lifecycle

Previous experience working in a multi-disciplined/cross disciplined team

Experience with power and propulsion within the maritime industry

Previous experience of coaching, mentoring and developing multi-disciplined professionals
