Project Engineer

Would you like to work within an organisation that supports the Royal Navy in Global Operations? We currently have a vacancy for a Project Engineer at our site in Portsmouth.

As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the Project Engineering Manager (PEM) in ensuring that the service delivered in the relevant project is safe and delivers a functional engineering product. You will support PEM by review of the integrity of work instructions during project planning, responding to engineering queries during project delivery and ensuring the integrity of the overarching engineering governance.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work within this development role which will provide experience within the PEM environment with the intention of developing a PEM or as a stepping stone to grow significant operational engineering experience to take to other Engineering roles within the Business.

Your main responsibilities as a Project Engineer will involve:

During project delivery, you will resolve production queries as quickly as practicable within safety and design intent

Carrying out engineering calculations, investigating and resolving engineering and maintenance support issues, and supporting Operations and Project Management functions in the delivery of ship projects or programmes

Reviewing all work in conjunction with ship's staff to ensure that it contains sufficient engineering content, appropriate levels of acceptance and assurance and that product safety and quality considerations have been incorporated into the Project Haz ID / Quality Scope

Supporting the PEM in maintaining engineering oversight, providing engineering governance, assurance and facilitating Warship Support to ensure overall quality and integrity of production work in addition to formal quality related events

Supporting in the application of mandated MOD safety and environmental systems, BAE Systems Engineering Governance, Product Safety & associated frameworks

Assisting in maintaining functional and governance interfaces with Alliance partners

Supporting Production Teams to aid in the application of requirements and standards to ensure they are fully understood and met

Supporting, developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need

Your skills and qualifications as a Project Engineer:

Some experience of repair, maintenance and integration of ships systems and equipment

Knowledge of design support activities with the ability to conduct engineering calculations, technical investigation and report writing in support of tasking requirements

Understanding of constructive, mechanical, and electrical systems

Some understanding on the development of naval ships, and the procurement of marine systems, materials and equipment

Degree in appropriate Engineering discipline or significant relevant experience

Member of appropriate Engineering Institute working towards Chartered status is desirable
