Who are we looking for?

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical / Controls Engineer to join the Building Services Engineering Group (BSEG) and take responsibility for the design, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning and maintenance of assigned electrical and control systems. A great opportunity to lead and mentor up to 3 direct reports, and prepare engineering procedures, method statements and local rules in support of BSEG requirements.

The operational aspects of the role provide challenges; many of the systems for which the group are responsible are key to the operation of the JET Tokamak. You will be able to demonstrate experience of working within a high hazard industrial environment and have a minimum of an HNC level education in electrical or controls engineering. You will have good interpersonal and excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels.

 

What will you be responsible for?

- Maintaining and growing the capability of the Section by training and recruiting staff.

- Line management of up to 3 direct reports including planning, allocating and prioritising tasks, monitoring progress and ensuring programme requirements are satisfied.

- Ensuring all technical criteria is satisfied in compliance with current legislation and codes of practice and delivered safely and effectively.

- Taking responsibility for the design, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning and maintenance of assigned electrical and control systems.

- Leading the technical and commercial management of contracts including the review and approval of supplier documentation, and ensuring costs are controlled within group budgetary constraints.

- Act as Plant Manager and Equipment Owner, in accordance with UKAEA Terms of Reference, for assigned plant, systems and sub-systems.

- Ensuring the training and supervision of staff and contractors to assist with the above activities.

- Occasional on-call and out of hours work (overtime payable).

 

Essential skills, experience and competence required

- High degree of knowledge of electrical safety rules and procedures.

- Experience of working within a high hazard industrial environment.

- Minimum of HNC level education in electrical or controls engineering.

- Previous experience of working to high standards and good interpersonal skills.

- High levels of intrinsic motivation with line management experience.

- Excellent problem-solving skills.

- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, both oral and written, and ability to interact with various stakeholders.

 

Desirable skills, experience and competence

- Experience with protection, control and interlock systems.

- Experience as an Authorised Person (Electrical).

- Experience of TREND or similar BMS.

- Electrical inspection and testing.
