Senior Engineer - Research & Technology

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer - Research & Technology at our site in Scotstoun.

As a Senior Engineer - Research & Technology, you will be supporting a wide range of projects across Naval Ships, the Research & Technology (R & T) team providing specialist engineering expertise to support the successful delivery of programmes. You will participate fully in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to provide input to the future success of Naval Ships. You will be testing new technology and have the opportunity to be involved in the creation of projects that may go on to save the business time and money and provide a better end product.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer - Research & Technology will involve:

Supporting the identification and research and deliver techniques, tools and materials that will improve the affordability and efficiency of our products and services

Supporting the delivery of R & T projects with reports, calculations and drawings supporting projects including High Risk Operations, Robotics and Automation, Structural Bonding, Additive Layer Manufacturing, SMART Manufacturing, Coatings and Corrosion and Materials selection, testing and approval

Carrying out technical investigations, including technical research, and assessing and providing recommendations regarding short and long-term consequences

 

Acting as the main point of contact with customers and suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives

 

Keeping up to date in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices), and supply technical support and expertise to others as required

 

 

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Engineer - Research & Technology:

 

Experienced engineer with knowledge of CAD/CAM technologies

Previous experience of materials science, coatings or 3D printing technologies

Experience of lifecycle management, ideally in more than one phase and a good understanding of through life engineering

Previous experience in an R & T role would be desirable

Mechanical or electrical engineering background
