UK National Data Centre Development Lead (Senior Theoretical Scientist)

Location - Reading/Basingstoke area

This role will include:

  • Leading the development of the UK National Data Centre for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty
  • Taking the lead on the assessment of CTBT International Data Centre products, through processing, evaluating and providing feedback on those products, and the capabilities of the CTBT International Monitoring System
  • Developing and enhancing the accessibility of a large archive of seismo-acoustic waveform data

We are looking to recruit a scientist with experience of project management and software development in a scientific context to work on the Nuclear Test Monitoring programme, supporting AWE's national nuclear security role. You will work as part of a team advising the UK Government on the technical verification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).

You should have knowledge of software development and computer programming, including languages such as Python, C/C++, Java and scripting languages, along with knowledge of database querying and management e.g., SQL and experience of working in a UNIX/Linux environment. You should also have experience of project management/delivery and organising technical work. You should be strongly self-motivated, able to work collaboratively with both the UK NDC scientists and the UK NDC operations team and have good communication and presentation skills. Ideally you should have experience of working with geophysical data.

To be considered for the role you should be educated to degree level in a physical or computing science, and possibly hold a higher degree in a physical or computing science.

Some UK and or overseas travel may be involved.

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
