The Opportunity

Redefine your personal best.

In our role as Strategic Solutions Partner, Stantec is working with Southern Water and their partners to develop innovative, sustainable and efficient solutions for their needs. We are looking for driven individuals who think differently and love to challenge conventional thinking to join us in a growing, collaborative team of likeminded engineers working to meet the unprecedented industry-wide efficiency and environmental challenges.

Currently we are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer. We are excited by the potential growth prospects and this is a good opportunity to join an ambitious team that will provide you with plenty of scope for career progression in the coming years.

The successful candidate will take a lead role to carry out outline design and detailed design acceptance of multiple water and wastewater projects for Southern Water. Leading our team of local engineers and collaborating with global experts, you will use your knowledge and experience to deliver effective solutions for our clients and the communities around us. The role will initially be undertaken via remote working, with the occasional site visit, however upon re-opening of the client offices there is the potential/likelihood for the role to be based out of Southern Water’s Falmer office for a minimum number of days/wk.

As a Chartered Mechanical Engineer (or equivalent, ie Incorporated), you’ll be providing technical expertise in all areas of Mechanical Engineering contributing to the whole project life cycle from feasibility and conceptual design through to commissioning and handover. You’ll also hold responsibility for liaison with clients, supply chain partners, contractors, stakeholders and third parties as required.

You’ll also embrace the opportunity to manage other engineers as well as acting as a mentor and guide to less experienced members within the team.

 About You

You’ll be a degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer with Chartered or equivalent membership of a relevant engineering institution (i.e. IET), and a storied background in the water industry. Furthermore, you’ll be able to demonstrate experience in the mechanical engineering elements in the design of water / wastewater treatment plants and/or water / wastewater networks.

You’ll be well versed in writing technical specifications and reports, familiar with collaborative reviews and designs of solutions in a BIM-enabled environment. The successful candidate will also lead on production of mechanical engineering and wider project diagrams, project management tools and methodologies to deliver technical work to time and cost targets.

Most importantly, you’ll embody our values and ethos of client focus and service excellence.
