Porton Down

Ref: 103822

We are Dstl – we are the science inside UK Defence and Security.

Here at Dstl, we harness the power of science and technology to keep the UK safe and secure. As a world-leader in our field, we provide expert, evidence-based advice and solutions on a range of advanced technologies. Our Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) group specialises in neutralising improvised explosive devices (IEDs), as well as a range of other electromagnetic technologies. Working closely with the military, security services and emergency services, we support counter-terrorism and security measures to protect lives.

Join our Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) team as a Systems Engineer and you’ll play a key role in ensuring that our ECM solutions remain effective. This is your chance to support a range of complex MoD research projects and programmes either on your own or as part of a team. You’ll lead a range of technical tasks, including laboratory assessments and field trials, guiding team members and offering specialist technical advice to customers so they can make informed decisions.

You’ll need to be a highly experienced EMC engineer, with exposure to military EMC, strong knowledge of RF and microwave engineering and the drive to become a global expert on electromagnetic pulse effects. With a record of successfully leading a range of scientific or technical projects, you’ll be a proven team player who’s used to delivering at pace and influencing people at all levels. You’ll also have a record of producing relevant EMC documentation. With an HNC or equivalent in electronics, you should be a member of a recognised professional engineering institution, such as the IET, or working towards it.

You’ll be based at Dstl Porton Down, but the variety of your work means you’ll also travel to other Dstl and MoD sites and take part in vehicle and equipment trials – sometimes at short notice.

With high quality training, work-life balance and the chance to advance, we offer flexibility and opportunities as well as varied, meaningful work. Join us at Dstl and find the unexpected inside.
