General Dynamics Mission Systems is on the look-out for a full-time Network Engineer to join our Systems integration and Trials Team. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £39,120 to £48,900 based on experience and potential. This is a flexible working role, ideal for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally. You may work remotely or within our offices in Oakdale or Chippenham, depending upon your preference with potential travel to customers or suppliers sites.

As Network Engineer, you will play a key role in integrating emerging technologies from the Internal Research & Development (IRAD) group and the wider business. You will be responsible for the setup, configuration, deployment, management and field support of secure communications systems. The ability to work well within a multi-disciplined engineering team will be crucial.

Some of your responsibilities as our Network Engineer would include:

  • Planning and support of field and laboratory trials and demonstrations to end-users as well as internal and external stakeholders
  • Analysing and debugging setup, configuration and integration issues on target hardware
  • Supporting secure communications systems, particularly at the network and application layer
  • Analysing trial and demonstration requirements - designing and implementing experimental activities
  • A successful candidate for this Networking Engineer job will have experience in mobile and fixed networks, with a track record of delivering successful trial and experimentation activities. Experience with scripting languages, cellular technologies 3G, 4G, 5G, and an understanding of Mesh/MANET and HLOS systems is preferred. You will demonstrate an understanding of the system support lifecycle and phases and challenges associated with support in a delivery focused commercially successful organisation.

    Ideally you may have experience of some of the below:

  • Experience of both mobile and fixed networks
  • Understanding of Mesh/MANET and HLOS systems
  • Knowledge of IP routing and switching to CCNA level or above or practical experience
  • An understanding of cellular technologies 3G, 4G, 5G and associated technologies
  • Knowledge of IP technologies and infrastructures
  • Understanding of Virtual Networks and associated technologies
  • Experienced with customer and vendor collaboration
  • Experience with scripting languages
