Senior Innovation & Systems Engineer
London: £46,250-£70,397
Glasgow/Cardiff: £43,650-£64,640

Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply.

What we do matters: making a difference to people’s lives now, and for generations to come. We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.

This role presents an opportunity to work at the forefront of innovation in the energy sector – shaping Ofgem’s strategy for energy flexibility, storage and decarbonisation of heat and transport. As an experienced energy system innovator you’ll bring your sector expertise and knowledge of new and emerging technologies to policy assessments, trade-off studies and sensitivity analysis. Your strategic technology perspective will be invaluable as you work closely with senior stakeholders to define, explain and influence the development of energy system concepts and architectures and future network solutions including flexibility and storage. Inquisitive by nature and committed to embracing innovation, you’ll be someone who is excited by the opportunity to seek and promote the technologies that will enable a net zero energy supply.

We expect that you will already be knowledgeable in system engineering techniques and frameworks and have expertise in grid edge technologies including smart network devices, electric vehicles, and smart appliances. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills will be vital in enabling you to advise and influence at a senior level and bring complex technical information to life for different audiences. You should have a good understanding of methodologies used to develop and apply decision-making frameworks or other options appraisal techniques as well as experience of drafting public facing documents and reports.

Ofgem is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided on the basis of open and fair competition, merit and business need.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:

·         Up to 30 days’ annual leave

·         Excellent training and development opportunities

·         The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits

·         Flexible working hours and family friendly policies

·         Subsidised gym

·         Interest free season ticket loan

·         Rental deposit scheme

·         Perkbox (staff discount scheme)
