AWE plays a crucial role in nuclear defence, providing the warheads for the UK's nuclear deterrent. What we do is unique and so are the people who work here. We currently have an exceptional leadership opportunity to join us as Head of Estate Services.

The role of Head of Estate Services is part of the Operational Support Services and Resourcing Leadership Team. Accountable for the leadership of the Estate Services group in line with the Operations Strategy and to ensure that the strategic and operational output meets the requirements of the AWE Programme. You will also be supporting service delivery elements of this role. This is a pivotal role reporting to Head of Operational Support Services and Resourcing.

In addition to the above, we will also be looking for candidates to have:

  • Ability to lead and set direction and strategy for Estate Services in support of Operational Support Services and Resourcing

  • Be accountable for the provision of an AWE Site Services capability ensuring that Sites are available for business and are safe to operate (Shift Operations, Fire and Rescue Services, Fire Safety, Site Response Group, Business Resilience Activities), Business (Shared) Services, Service Delivery Management of key Enabling Contracts (including civilian security, catering, housekeeping), Waste Services and Health Physics

  • Ability to drive efficiencies and effective ways of working

  • Arrangement owner for many regulatory conditions

  • Working knowledge of the Environmental Permitting Regulations with respect to Radioactive, Controlled & Aqueous Waste Management and Contaminated Land

  • Ability to act as a role model, coach and develop a proactive culture, share best practice principles.

All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas of AWE.
