Job Description - Who are we looking for?

This is a unique opportunity to work with process engineers, scientists and tritium experts to contribute to the development of fusion power, providing support for a series of novel scientific experiments using tritium, one of the worlds largest tritium handling plants as well as helping to build a new prototype tritium handling plant (H3AT).

Leading a team of 4, you will have a passion and enthusiasm for finding new opportunities to add value to the organisation by providing expertise to the project or developing team, and will have exceptional communication skills at all levels and disciplines.

You will will possess technical experience in development of either electrical or control systems and be able to lead an EC&I team. You will be working towards or will have attained chartered status and you must be degree qualified in a discipline that includes elements of electrical, software, electronic or systems engineering or have equivalent experience. If you have previous experience working in a high hazard industrial or scientific environment, this would be advantageous but not essential.

What will you be responsible for?

- Line and task management of up to 4 employees

- Provide leadership for electrical, control and instrumentation design including approval of relevant design documents and following UKAEAs technical control process

- Reviewing and approving electrical installations from a safety perspective

- Collaborating with industrial, academic and engineering partners for the purpose of designing equipment

- Preparing and approving appropriate working documentation including engineering procedures, risk assessments and method statements

- Being an active reviewer in design reviews and HAZOPs and provide technical input to a variety of projects

- We are recruiting for two section leader roles, one team will be biased towards expertise in electrical design while the other towards systems and control design

- Please note: shift work may be required in support of operations on an infrequent basis

Qualifications

Essential skills, experience and competence required

- Experience of using engineering technical control and/or work control practices

- Technical experience in either electrical systems, control systems or software development for control of systems

- Experience in technical and / or project leadership

- Degree (or equivalent experience) in an engineering or science discipline that includes elements of electrical, software, electronic or systems engineering

- Working towards or attained chartered status (or equivalent)

- Experience in project planning

- Line management experience

- Proven track record of designing bespoke equipment

- Working in a high hazard industrial or scientific environment

- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer

- Qualifications in electrical or control systems standards

- Qualifications in management of safety (e.g IOSH)
