Job Description

The Systems Administrator (Projects) is responsible for providing input to the design, planning, implementation, testing, documentation and handover training on custom projects across on-premise, hosted and cloud environments, ensuring completion within timescales and agreed budgets. Projects will be completed as part of a team involving networking engineers, Security and Compliance (where applicable), Project Management, Line Management and business stakeholders. This position is part of the dedicated IT Solutions team in the UK and provides support across EMEA as required.

How you will make a difference

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with business stakeholders to identify requirements for any new projects

  • Collaboration with senior engineers and Management to aid designs of IT solutions

  • Ability to assist developing a project plan and following that plan to successful completion, on time and within budget

  • Documenting technical and training manuals to hand over to BAU and Service Desk teams

  • Install, configure, administer, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues as required

  • Participate as directed by the Infrastructure Manager in on call rosters and other arrangements necessary for the delivery of 24/7 services

  • Meet/Exceed SLAs

  • Generate reports /statistics as needed

  • Follow, maintain and disseminate approved procedures, including adherence to ISO20000 & ISO27001 standards

  • Take an active interest in the development of the Service Desk function and its contribution to the service as a whole

  • Participate in working on BAU tasks when demand requires

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications/Experience

  •  CompTIA Security +

  • VMware Certified Professional – vSphere

  • Citrix Certified Administrator – XenApp/XenDesktop

  • Excellent IT troubleshooting experience in dealing with a wide range of different processes and systems

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • 3rd line support with system architecting experience

  • Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 including Active Directory/Group Policy administration/ DNS - including replication and multiple site deployments

  • Microsoft Skype for Business

  • Microsoft Exchange deployment and administration - Microsoft Exchange 2013

  • SharePoint administration and maintenance - SharePoint 2013

  • Basic SQL Server administration/database concepts - MS SQL 2005, 2008, 2012, 2014,  2016

  • Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop and Citrix NetScalar

  • Anti-Virus/Endpoint Security - Preferably Sophos

  • IBM - TSM

  • Supporting MS Dynamics and/or SAP

  • PowerShell and VB scripting

  • ISCSI and Fibre Channel Storage Technologies – EMC SAN/Dell NetApp

  • Remote support/diagnosis of servers/desktop/users

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • ITIL Certified

  • MCSA Qualified (MCSE would be advantageous)

  • Understanding of Cloud Platforms (Saas, Iaas) from a service perspective

  • Active Directory Federated Trusts

  • Experience/Knowledge of AWS/Azure technologies

  • Clustering

  • Experience/knowledge of ISO20000 & ISO27001

  • Networking knowledge – TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, MPLS

  • Excellent  communication and interpersonal skills, able to meet the needs of a wide range of external and internal service clients and to develop effective working relationships within the company

  • Adept at working effectively whilst under pressure

Other requirements

  • Travel requirements: UK travel for meetings, conferences, training, data centre activities and incident resolution, as required

  • Valid UK driving licence

  • Clearance requirements: The post-holder must hold and maintain UK Government clearance
