Salary: £31,931 - £34,709 or £39,748 - £44,166 per annum (plus annual role-based allowance of up to £3,000)

Based at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) the Central Laser Facility (CLF) is building a new laser centre - the Extreme Photonics Applications Centre (EPAC) and is seeking new team members to help to build this and to contribute to our existing facilities. EPAC is an £81M facility that will use lasers developed by our team to drive new types of novel particle and radiation beams that can be applied to a wide range of problems in science and industry.
We are looking for people like you, network engineers at all stages of their careers to be a part of our friendly and enthusiastic team. CLF will have a hybrid working arrangement with the option of partial remote working.
About the Role
EPAC's experimental areas will generate high data rates and will require appropriate data transport and networking solutions. A software engineer with specialized knowledge in networking will be required to undertake the design and testing of the end-to-end network and its services in EPAC.
You will have a degree or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, or a strongly related STEM subject with hands-on experience with network instruments.
In addition, you should have experience of fibre networks and knowledge of fibre transmission concepts and technologies. The successful candidate will also have experience of TCP/IP Ethernet networking, and experience of working with Firewalling technologies and VPN as well as leading networking products would be beneficial.
The role requires the candidate to be self-motivated, to work well in a team and to be able to operate independently. You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a highly organised approach to work.
