The challenge

The nation’s investment in flood and coastal defences has helped to protect properties and reduce the impacts of flooding on lives and livelihoods. Between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2027, the government is investing a further £5.2 billion in reducing the risks of flooding and coastal erosion. Alongside the construction of hard flood defences, our programme will seek to incorporate natural flood management and climate change allowances into the design of our schemes as well as create habitats for wildlife.

Our Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) team looks after and upgrades all our systems and assets. From flood risk pumping stations to water control structures and across our wider business – the team prioritises, plans and delivers a programme of works that spans technical assurance, statutory compliance, carbon reduction and capital delivery. It’s a team that homes, businesses and the environment simply can’t do without.

The role

Essentially, this is about co-ordinating, directing and recording the delivery of our MEICA projects. You’ll use our Computerised Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) to schedule works, plan financially and ensure all the admin’s up to date.

In turn, you’ll also give technical information to colleagues on statutory legislation and industry standards. And we’ll also ask you to take responsibility for managing the data and records behind our assets, so that everyone here can get the facts they need at speed.

The person

While IMechE or IET certification would be great, a HNC or electrical engineering experience could still make you perfect for the role. We’re looking for a good knowledge of MEICA legislation, industry standards, CMMS and safety investigations. Experience in root cause analysis, reliability engineering and process improvement is vital too. But beyond this, it’s your passion for delivering the best possible solutions that will mark you out, and help you quickly develop your skills.
