We are searching for a Lead Battery Cell Chemist to lead the Jaguar Land Rover Battery Material research for the development of the next-generation batteries for traction battery systems. Using state-of-the-art facilities for Li-ion battery cell material investigation, you will provide the power behind our vehicles working in our Powertrain Engineering team. You'll find the ideal balance between performance and sustainability while responding to the environmental issues that shape our industry.

The Advanced Battery Research function contributes to the development of new technologies and features to product delivery. This role will support collaborative research with key leading UK universities and external partners in addition to our electrification teams in the delivery of new electric vehicle programmes.

As a Lead Battery Cell Chemist, you will be responsible for the investigation into cell design and engineering aspects for Li-ion current and future technology and will lead research on cost-sensitive cell components and understanding trade-off for a value-engineered solution. You will lead research projects investigating all aspects of battery cell performance to deliver the best pack performance over the life of the vehicle. Furthermore, you will define protocols for battery cell tear down and material analysis activities to support "should cost" activities and battery material performance enhancement and investigate all aspects of battery cell performance to deliver the best pack performance over the life of the vehicle.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

You will have an electrochemist background (PhD desirable) with a fundamental understanding of battery cell working principles. Furthermore, you will have experience in cell electrochemical testing and advanced material characterisation and cell autopsy and ageing analysis. Hands-on experience in battery cell testing and data analysis is essential for this position.

You will also possess:
* Experience in leading and delivering research projects
* Previous experience in a Research role in engineering or automotive environment
* Previous experience of working with Universities and Research partners
