About Us

The Science & Technology Facilities Council is a partner organisation within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). STFC- RAL Space is one of the largest interdisciplinary space departments in Europe, having celebrated more than 50-years excellence in space-flight and a proven track record contributing to more than 200 instruments in space.

The department works throughout the lifecycle of space missions - from leading concept studies for future missions; developing bespoke, innovative scientific instrumentation; providing space test and ground-based facilities; operating ground-stations, and to processing and analysing data.

About the role

You will be designing high-performance electronics across a diverse range of space instrumentation at the forefront of space technology. These high-performance instruments will explore the solar system and go to Mars and beyond.

The Electronics Design group is seeking to recruit an electronics design engineer to support their current and rapidly increasing project portfolio. The group is recognised for its major contributions in a diverse range of space instrumentation including imaging electronics on NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory and the RAMAN spectrometer on ESA's EXOMars rover and much more…

As a Senior/Electronics Design Engineer, you will work alongside over 40 other staff members in the Imaging Systems Division who have a diverse range of skills in systems, electronics and optical engineering design, quantum science, electronics manufacture and production, real-time embedded software and project management. This provides an exciting career and allows you to have project responsibility from the outset with a close supporting framework.

About you

You will hold a degree in electronic engineering or loosely related subject (or equivalent experience) and be an experienced electronics design engineer including knowledge of VHDL and/or Verilog. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of PCB layout and prior use of electronics CAD and modeling tools. You will also be able to demonstrate practical skills such as verification and testing of circuit boards and components.

For the senior role, advance knowledge of the above would be needed.
