AWE are recruiting for an Aerothermal Analysis Engineer to join a dedicated team and contribute to the analysis of hypersonic re-entry vehicles.

Location - Reading / Basingstoke area
Package - £42,650 - £65,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

As a key member of the Engineering Team, this role will give you the opportunity to help develop the
team's technical capability and lead development and validation of bespoke analysis tools.
You will have the chance to engage and influence customers and through your drive, technical
aptitude and personality eventually develop into a more senior position.
Purpose of Role:
To lead analysis of high-speed vehicles for flight, aerodynamic, aerothermal, and material response performance using a suite of bespoke tools ranging from high fidelity CFD methods to fast-running, empirically-based, codes
To engage with, support and influence internal and external customers and other stakeholders
To lead the on-going development of bespoke analysis tools by an external contractor, understanding long term requirements and formulating a structured development plan, leading the validation and verification effort
To support the technical development of less experienced team members
To engage effectively with the Team Leader, peers, and the wider analysis team, including face-to-face meetings (when appropriate), writing technical reports, and delivering presentations
To influence, support, and analyse flight and ground test programmes
Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates should be able to demonstrate some of the following:
A good technical degree and membership of an engineering institution with CEng preferred
Extensive knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas:
High speed (supersonic/ hypersonic) aerodynamic analysis/ CFD
Flight and/or re-entry dynamics
Experimental aerodynamics
Toolset development and V&V
High-temperature material response
The ability and personality to be a leader within the team and wider business
Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact with staff at all levels and with other technical disciplines
The ability to work on long-term research and development projects, as well as to tight deadlines set by projects and customers
Experience of working on Linux (or Unix) and HPCs
Experience of coding/scripting (e.g. Fortran, Python, bash) would be beneficial
Ability to solve problems in making computational models and methods work
Ability to produce and present clear and concise reports and presentations for customers, peers, programme management, and external meetings
To be meticulous and methodical
To be highly self-motivated
Ability to solve problems in making computational models and methods work
All candidates must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to undertake occasional travel when restrictions are lifted.
