MBDA Missile Systems - Deliver for a more secure tomorrow

This is a role in the Low Observability team within Sparkworks UK; our team has a track-record of developing and proving new capability in RF Stealth, including conventional and novel techniques.
We are looking for someone to join our multidisciplinary team which engages across many areas of missile design over a mixture of research and mainstream project work. We’re looking for someone who brings technical experience and an appreciation of how these technical challenges fit into the bigger picture; in particular we are seeking engineering managers with good people, project management and partner engagement skills and a passion for developing and emerging technologies.
Familiarity with RCS design and working within security constraints would be a bonus, although we can readily train people who bring a positive attitude and the right background – preferably with physics, radio, electronics or similar in their background.
What we’re looking forAn engineer or scientist with project and team management experience, with the

following attributes:
  • Preferably holding a degree in physical sciences or engineering
  • A background in any of electronics systems, radar, radio, systems integration, or similar is essential.
  • Ideally, but not essential, you have prior experience in RCS Design, Survivability or RF Low Observability.
  • Proven delivery of technical work packages and projects with successful technical work delivered both individually and as part of a team.
  • Experience in leading technical bids and effectively engaging with customers.
  • A track-record of comfortably melding science and engineering aspirations, with the realistic need to deliver within time, cost and performance constraints.
  • Experience in exploring new technical challenges and finding new and effective approaches and solutions.
  • Ideally you would also be experienced in leading or undertaking Systems Engineering and Concepting studies.
  • Highly familiar with Office software; able to understand and communicate complex subject matter to both experienced personnel and those less familiar.
  • Also advantageous would be the ability to step back from day-to-day aspects, view the bigger picture context and navigate a successful course through complex and changing requirements.
  • For this role, candidates must be willing to undertake the DV (Developed Vetting) security clearance process.
What’s in it for you?
  • Interesting and exciting work, giving you the opportunity to work on some truly innovative and world-class technology
  • Frequent opportunities to gain visibility for you and your work at the highest level both inside and outside the company
  • Excellent training opportunities in a broad range of relevant subjects; achieved through formal training courses and/or on-the-job training
  • Opportunities to work across the team, to gain experience of new areas (technical, project management, systems engineering, trials)
  • Opportunities to develop new skills through interaction with specialist areas within MBDA
Our benefitsFlexible working *opportunities for career progression *paid overtime (subject to level) *great bonus scheme *comprehensive pension scheme *annual salary review *fantastic working environment and site facilities *social, charitable and sporting activities.

Join a great team!

Undertaking this role you would be joining a dynamic, diverse, passionate team responsible for the development of our future business & world leading technologies. You will work with skilled, supportive and motivated colleagues, with a drive to deliver future technologies and a desire to see them benefit defence.
You will have access to in-house expertise to supplement and grown your knowledge, with opportunities to attend international conferences to keep abreast of developments in the field. There is access to a large laboratory and workshop. You will also have opportunity to contribute to wider activities, supporting senior management with high-level VIP visits and demonstrations.
Overall, you will have the chance to exploit innovative and novel techniques in the development of the company’s future portfolio.

Company

MBDA, a world leader in missiles and missile systems, is a multi-national group with 10,000 employees working across France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Spain and the United States. It has three major aeronautical and defence shareholders - Airbus Group (37.5%), BAE Systems (37.5%) and Finmeccanica (25%) - and is the first truly integrated European defence company. In 2013, the Group recorded a turnover of 2.8 billion euros, produced about 3,000 missiles and added 4 billion euros of new orders to the order book which now stands at 10.8 billion euros. MBDA works with over 90 armed forces worldwide.

MBDA was created in December 2001, after the merger of the main missile producers in France, Italy and the UK. Each of these companies contributed the experience gained from fifty years of technological and operational success. The restructuring of the industry in Europe was completed with the acquisition of the German subsidiary EADS/LFK in March 2006. This further enriched MBDA’s range of technologies and products, consolidating the Group’s world-leading position in the industry.

MBDA is the only Group capable of designing and producing missiles and missile systems to meet the whole range of current and future operational requirements for the three armed forces (army, navy, air force). Overall, the Group offers a range of 45 products in service and another 15 in development.

The Group has demonstrated its ability to bring together the best skills across the whole of Europe and as a result has been chosen to lead a series of strategic multi-national programmes. These include the six-nation Meteor air superiority weapon, the Franco-British conventionally armed cruise missile, Storm Shadow/SCALP, and a family of air defence systems based on the Aster missile for France and Italy (for ground and naval based air defence) and for the UK (naval air defence for the Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyers).

The mastery of cutting-edge technologies is not only an advantage for MBDA in successfully developing and producing new products. It is also a means of guaranteeing customers that innovations can be made to existing products during their life span in order to meet constantly changing specifications arising from increasingly complex engagement scenarios. It is precisely this combination which makes MBDA the defence sector partner of choice in many countries around the world.
