Job Description

Who are we looking for?

The Electrical Systems Design Engineer is responsible for supporting project managers and technical leads with defining the electrical system requirements across a varied project portfolio: creating design specifications, generating layout designs, overseeing/creating detailed design drawings, developing commissioning schedules and delivering operational systems and equipment.

It is an exciting time to be joining the team during this period of growth where you will join a diverse and commercial department, Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE). RACE is based at Culham, within UKAEA, specialising in remote handling and automated systems for challenging environments, working on a range of projects both within and outside of the fusion industry.

What will you be responsible for?

As an Electrical Systems Design Engineer, you will be delivering operational electrical systems for a variety of applications, and will be responsible for:

Designing and defining electrical system requirements and design specifications, along with creating detailed design documents and developing commissioning schedules

Carrying out electrical design in CAD

Producing specifications for electrical systems compliant to Machinery and Low Voltage Directives

Preparing detailed electrical schematics and related bill of materials

Reviewing and approving quality of electrical design and documentation created by other engineers

Providing technical support for test and commissioning of systems

Coaching and supervise less experienced staff

Managing subcontractors, including specifying tasks and tracking progress against project milestones

Please note, you may be required to support activities outside normal working hours during busy periods of time.

Qualifications

Essential skills, experience qualification and competence required

HND/C or BEng in a relevant engineering or technical subject

Experience of electrical design using CAD

Experience with low voltage and extra low voltage systems

Ability to work collaboratively in cross discipline teams

Experience of working within a regulated Industry

Competent in electrical calculations

Knowledge of electrical standards and regulations, and electrical principles applied to machinery and distribution systems

Demonstrable leadership and line management experience

Extensive electrical engineering design experience

Experience of assessing electrical design work

Desirable skills, experience and competence

Experience of design for manufacturing

Experience of electrical cubicle design

Experience of cable management design

Experience of LV and ELV distribution

Experience of commissioning

Hold, or working towards, Master's degree

Membership of relevant professional body

Chartered Engineer, or equivalent professional qualification
