About the Role

Project management is the application of processes, methods, knowledge, skills and experience to achieve the project objectives.

The Project Controller position within Programme Operations at Lockheed Martin Ampthill is a varied, fast paced and non-administrative role.

A Project Controller's role centres around supporting the Project Manager, Programme or Business Area to enable them to achieve their objectives and deliverables.

Our Project Controller's can be assigned directly to a Project Manager (often within a larger Programme) or provide support to the whole Programme working for the Programme Senior Team.
 
Duties/Responsibilities
These are some of the tasks a Project Controller may be asked to undertake. Please note that these are only a small sample of the many tasks a Project Controller can be tasked with.

  • Schedule all activities associated with assigned Projects/Control Accounts to produce an integrated schedule, update as required, and report potential problems/problem areas to the Control Account Manager for action.
  • Identify and validate the critical path on the project. Communicate the critical path to the project team
  • Resource load schedules (where applicable) and maintain a Performance Measurement Baseline in the planning tool through integrating SBCRs into the baseline and forecast.
  • Status the schedule, analyse and report project progress and resource requirements.
  • Ensure the schedule is traceable to other data sources – Work Breakdown Structure, Organisational Breakdown Structure, Integrated Master Plan and the risk register
  • Produce look ahead reports from the schedule for the integrated product teams
  • Ensure that the schedules adhere to the DCMA 14 point health check
  • Identify, logically link and maintain dependencies between various work streams
  • Assists Control Account Manager in generating data/information for presentations and reports to project management or the customer.
  • Consolidate data in the schedule for Control Account Manager’s review and approval.
  • Generate Variance Analysis Reports on a monthly basis to cover schedule variance at completion information with corrective actions. Work with the CAM to implement the corrective actions to re-align the work to the baseline.
  • Integrate the schedule data into the cost system.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Working knowledge of and experience in MS Project 2007/2010 and Primavera P6 would be an advantage
  • A strong individual who will ensure that best planning practice is always adhered to, even in occasional pressurised situations.
  • Proven understanding of all aspects of Earned Value Management (EVM) 
  • The ability to quickly pick up new tool sets and processes, with good analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to analyse schedules and cost data for impending difficulties and clearly communicate to Project Manager/Control Account Manager.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Desired skills, qualifications and experience

  • Working knowledge of and experience in SAP cost planning & reporting
  • Experience in the development, maintenance and control of complex event-driven Integrated Master Schedules (IMS).
  • Experience in planning and scheduling in complex design and development programmes (preferably MoD or Defence related) and be able to understand and work with a technical and skill-diverse team
