We have an amazing opportunity for a Software Safety Engineer to join our team in Havant, Hampshire. You will get the opportunity to work on various programmes including CROWSNEST, Merlin, Maritime and future business pursuits.

About the role:

  • Supporting the Lead Safety Engineer you will primarily be involved in developing safety management plans and associated audit plans/safety cases.

  • Hazard Management using eCassaadra
  • Event Tree and Fault Tree development using Reliability Work Bench

Required skills, qualifications and experience

 

 

 

Recent, relevant experience of safety programmes in a prime contractor/systems integration environment.

Working and current knowledge of:

  • UK and EU safety related legislation (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act)
  • Environmental legislation and management systems (eg. ISO14001 etc.)
  • Defence and commercial safety standards such as Def Stan 00-056, Def-Stan 00-055, Mil Std 882, IEC61508, JSP 430), RTCA DO– 178C, and RTCA DO254
  • Safety Case development using the Adelard Safety Case Editor (ASCE)
  • Hazard Management using eCassandra
  • Event Tree and Fault Tree development using Reliability Work Bench
  • Programme Element Safety Summary (PESS) development in accordance with Def-Stan 00-055
  • Experience of the software development commensurate with Safety Integrity Level 2 including safety aspects of software requirements methodologies, design principles, Coding and verification
  • Understanding of the impact of use of COTS equipment and/or of PE reuse in a safety related environment


The PE Safety Engineer will have a Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, and have experience in an engineering discipline (one of which must be safety related).
 

Desired skills, qualifications and experience

 

 

 

  • Sufficent experience to perform the Key Responsibilities listed for PE safety and System safety
  • Conduct Zonals and physical safety audits
  • Application of the required skills in a military aircraft environment
  • Understanding of the Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Articles as they apply to Rotary Aircraft, in particular the RA 1200 series
  • Understanding Def-Stan 00-970, and its application to Rotary platforms
  • Experience of the PE development commensurate with Safety Integrity Level 3
  • Auditing experience, PE in particular

The Safety Engineer will exhibit the following attributes:

  • Be able to work on the task associated with the overall function without placing an excessive burden on the practitioner or expert
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Be a team player
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision

The Safety Engineer shall Qualify for UK security clearance.
