Role Profile

As a telecommunications Field Engineer you will be tasked by the Service Desk or your Line manager to maintain equipment in line with contract requirements.  You will be part of a team but must be able to work alone without the need for direct supervision on site.

The role will involve fault rectification on a wide range of switching, transmission & IP equipment. This may also include performing upgrades, installations and project work if required.  You will be required to participate in a 24x7 Rota working 24x7 shifts and in close co-operation with our customers and third parties, a high degree of customer focus is required. This will be on a 1 in 3, or 1 in 4 basis to meet business requirements. You must be able to meet the challenge of tight deadlines to minimize down time for the customers. Quality focused, with an eye for detail to ensure a right first-time approach.

Typical Deliverables

  • Covering but not limited to Berkshire/Hampshire geographical area
  • Carry out tasks from latest issue contract manuals and procedural documents to required standards of quality and time
  • Accurate and timely completion and submission of all required site administration and completion documents as required
  • Receipt of deliveries and arrange site clearance
  • Complete QC checks on own work and that completed by others on site and record results accurately using the correct documents
  • Accurate and timely submission of all timesheet and expense claims in accordance with published processes
  • Complete general risk assessment prior to commencement of each task on site and record in site diary
  • Maintain adequate and ‘in date’ personal protective equipment sufficient to complete all tasks undertaken and ensure that it is always used as required
  • Manage all tooling and test equipment in line with published processes to ensure that fit for purpose, calibrated and PAT tested tooling and test equipment is available as appropriate to complete all assigned tasks
  • Efficient management of all on-hire equipment ensuring items are returned promptly after use to minimise cost
  • Local primary point of reference for Telent management and customer’s representatives
  • Reporting to Field Operations supervisor or Project Manager on contract progress and completion
  • Knowledge, understanding and enforcement of all Company Policy, Processes and Procedures relating to installation activities
  • Care and maintenance of any allocated vehicle and be fully compliant with all relevant driver policies

Business Operations Skills – Essential

  • ONC or BTEC in Telecommunications
  • Work experience of 2 years minimum in a similar role
  • NSRWA
  • Full, Clean UK Drivers Licence
  • Have or ability to pass a Climbing at Height Medical and Rooftop Safety Awareness training
  • Must be eligible for SC Clearance

Business Operations Skills – Desirable

  • IP: Router and Switch Configuration, installation, and Fault Analysis - CCNA experience advantageous
  • Legacy Systems Commissioning & Fault Analysis: System X, SDH / PDH, TDM, Voice
  • Complex network build, test, and fault finding – DWDM, IP, Ethernet
  • Copper Termination: at MDF, IDF and DDF using multi-core copper or co-axial. CAT 5/6 install and termination
  • Rack installation, D.C. Power: accredited to level 2 or 3 through company training programme
  • Optical Fibre: cable preparation, splicing and OTDR operation and interpretation of results
