AWE have an exciting new opportunity for a highly motivated technical manager of people to support our specialist Warhead Engineering team.

Engineering Team Leader - Controller Technologies

Location: Reading / Basingstoke Area

Salary: £55,450 - £87,650 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

The successful candidate will lead a team of digital and analogue electronic, software and system engineers to develop controller systems. The team deliver the following capabilities:

  • Low Voltage Analogue Test and Verification

  • Digital Design and Verification

  • PCB Design, Layout and Manufacture

  • Cable Design and Manufacture

  • Embedded Software Design and Verification

You will be accountable for delivery to time, cost and quality, applying the sub-function's strategy and providing effective guidance as the main contact point for their team members. You will be responsible for maintaining a technical capability that delivers critical skills and resources aligned to business requirements to deliver the integrated technical programme.

Additional Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop the team and influence others at specialism or functional level to create and deliver our operational plans

  • Assess staff performance, measured against agreed personal objectives and accountabilities, and take corrective action to improve performance where necessary via appropriate management interventions

  • Engage with Subject Matter Experts within the team and beyond to provide expert knowledge and technical expertise in the field of technical specialism

  • Use the sub-function strategy to define the teams' operational plan while managing resources in a safe, secure and cost efficient manner

  • Responsible for the technical quality of the work undertaken by the team and/or teams through appropriate internal (i.e., with Subject Matter Experts) and external reviews

  • Responsible for knowledge capture to maintain, share, preserve and protect intellectual property

  • Provide an agile capability, delivering critical skills and resource aligned to business requirements underpinning the Programme

  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player

Candidates will be expected to be able to demonstrate a solid background in electronics or software design with experience of product delivery within this field.

In addition, we will also be looking for candidates to evidence:

  • Experience of successfully leading and managing a high performing, multi-disciplinary and motivated team

  • Proven record of accomplishment of driving delivery, performance and continuous improvement

  • Ability to work with a range of stakeholders (technical and non-technical)

  • Ability to apply his or her own judgement / discretion

  • Ability to deal with / manage sensitive staff issues

  • A working appreciation business requirements

  • Strategic and tactical planning skills

  • Experience of system integration. knowledge and/or experience (Desirable)

All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to undertake occasional UK and overseas travel when restrictions are lifted.
