BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor (PC) under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons. The Fatigue Management Engineer is a degree-qualified Engineering specialist, with skills and knowledge beyond those expected of maintenance personnel and who is solely responsible for advising the RSAF on fatigue management related matters for all SBDCP and Typhoon aircraft operated in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They will co-ordinate and manage the fatigue consumption of the entire SBDCP/Typhoon fleet of aircraft and act as the sole focal point of contact between the Data Gathering Centres (DGCs) at other bases, RSAF HQ, UK MOD and the Prime Contractor. They will also provide training appropriate to the needs of RSAF Engineers in the Aeronautical Engineering Squadron.
To advise the RSAF, through the AES Commander, on the use and interpretation of fatigue management data.
To advise the RSAF, through the AES Commander, on optimum flying profiles in order to minimise fatigue consumption and increase fatigue life.
Co-ordinating with the Data Gathering Centres to ensure accuracy of fatigue related data.
Co-ordinating with the Prime Contractor on fatigue and fatigue software related problems on behalf of the RSAF through the AES Commander.
Liaison with the Design Authority to ensure that the fatigue lifting algorithms, in particular Fatigue Meter Formulae, are valid for RSAF utilisation.
Responsible for ensuring the historical accuracy and validity of the SBDCP/Typhoon Aircraft flight and fatigue databases.
Responsible for running ad-hoc queries on the SBDCP/Typhoon Aircraft databases at the request of the RSAF and other agencies.
Responsible for generating regular fatigue reports as used by RSAF HQ, UK MODSAP and the PC.
Responsible for compiling and maintaining Fatigue Management Procedures.
To provide RSAF Officer Fatigue Management familiarisation training both informally and in a formal classroom situation including the preparation and delivery of instruction that will ultimately lead to the award of a certificate of completion for the AES Engineers involved.
To prepare and draft briefs for the RSAF to be presented to MoDSAP, the Prime Contractor and vendors at formal and informal meetings such as the Tornado Support Meeting (TSM) and Typhoon Structural Integrity Working Group (SIWG) meetings.
To provide assistance and advice to RSAF HQ in the preparation of Statement of Operating Intent and Utilisation (SOIU) Reviews.
To provide advice to the RSAF on the validity and accuracy of all fatigue-related T.O.s.
Responsible for troubleshooting, correcting and documenting fatigue software problems as required at RSAF bases Kingdom-wide for all SBDCP/Typhoon aircraft as directed by the AES Commander.
- Honours Degree in Structure related discipline (Aeronautical, Mechanical etc.) is essential.
- To have completed a recognised course in aircraft engineering or related engineering discipline at a military or civilian school of technical training, and / or have completed an appropriate apprenticeship would be desirable.
- At extensive experience as an aeronautical engineer with comprehensive Tornado, Hawk, Typhoon or a similar platform experience.
- Be conversant with in-service aircraft lifting philosophies and techniques.
- Experience of the Hawk or Typhoon Fatigue Management System (FMS) is desirable.
- An understanding of aircraft stress and fatigue analysis is desirable.
- Self-motivated with the ability to analyse problems and formulate solutions to new issues.
- Ability to be able to produce high quality letters and reports using Microsoft Office suite of programmes.
The Fatigue Management Engineer will have a robust working knowledge of the fatigue processes and corresponding design principles of aircraft and must have knowledge of one or more of BAE Systems products i.e. Tornado, Hawk and Typhoon.
The Fatigue Management Engineer will have good written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
The Fatigue Management Engineer will possess strong leadership qualities with proven interpersonal and team working skills.
The Fatigue Management Engineer will be computer literate and an experienced user of the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Project).
