JOB PURPOSE

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor (PC) under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons. For such maintenance and training, this role is responsible for applying measurement science, mathematics, physics, and engineering theory and principles to design, develop processes and methods for calibrating electrical, dimensional, optical, physical, mechanical, environmental and/or chemical Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE). Analyse and solve calibration problems using advanced mathematical and engineering knowledge. Use statistics and uncertainty of measurement to analyse measurement standards and processes. May develop software to assist in calibration laboratory and/or departmental processes. Recommend calibration standards and TMDE. Maintain calibration laboratory and/or quality systems. Perform laboratory and/or departmental administration and management.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Through the direction of the Chief Metrologist (Engineering) assists the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) in the provision of Engineering Services for RSAF MetCal activities and in accordance with RSAF directives.

Checks the operational performance of existing and new TMDE, automated laboratory measuring systems; recommends enhancement upgrades and new software functions to ensure maximum flexibility, utilisation and test report generation.

Provides technical support and assistance to MetCal personnel to resolve unusual or difficult problems associated with TMDE calibration measurement and repair activities.

Prepares feasibility studies, circuit diagrams, logical drawings, complex calculations etc., to assist the RSAF in the procurement and configuration of new MetCal calibration/repair capabilities where no previous MetCal capability exists or where an existing capability needs to be enhanced to meet future tasks.

Originates technical specifications and local calibration procedures, for MetCal tasks in accordance with RSAF requirements, where no other procedures are available and assist other Engineers and Metrologists in the preparation of multi-disciplinary procedures and reports.

Coordinates technical queries with external agencies, design authorities, vendors and suppliers to provide solutions to resolve calibration/repair issues.

Provide mentoring to RSAF and Saudi Graduate Engineering Trainees.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION   

Will have completed formal training (civilian or military) in an Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical engineering field to include Physical-Dimensional, Pressure, Liquid and Gas Flow, knowledge of an Electrical parameter and Database Management is advantageous. Formal training should have been undertaken for a minimum of 4 years with practical experience in a relevant field for minimum of additional 5 years.   Will hold a University Degree in an appropriate subject (e.g. physics, electronics engineering, or other acceptable qualifications as agreed by the MetCal Wing Commander. Will have extensive professional/practical experience of engineering principles with relevance to measuring equipment (analogue, digital and automation); previous experience in a precision calibration environment at an Engineering level being ideal. Will be able to demonstrate an ability to write clear concise reports, analyse/resolve calibration and metrology measuring problems and accuracy issues using engineering judgment, analytical skills and initiative.
