About us

From our iconic Guildhall headquarters, to Mansion House and the Old Bailey, the City of London Corporation manages many sites of historical, political and strategic importance, as well as portfolio of high-value commercial properties. Maintaining and improving the facilities and services within these buildings is a vital part of realising their true value to the City Corporation. It’s also how we’re working to meet vital energy efficiency targets.

The role

Tackling a range of building mechanical & electrical engineering projects, you’ll play a vital role in both conserving and enhancing the City Corporation’s built assets. Based in the City Surveyor’s Department, you will supervise projects from inception to completion. You will work with stakeholders to establish their requirements and translate these into technical specifications and briefs, the emphasis will be on mechanical works. You will also prepare feasibility studies and tender documents. Monitoring the performance of consultants and contractors will be key: you will carry out site inspection of works in progress to ensure compliance with building regulations.

About you

With practical experience of building mechanical & electrical engineering, you’ll be ready to provide informed advice and offer solutions in areas such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting. This will include working closely with clients, as well as consultants and contractors.  Strong influencing and negotiating skills will be key to your success. You will either hold or be working towards Chartered Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent) and will have a working knowledge of the application of CDM 2015 regulations. Your analytical and problem-solving skills will be matched by proficiency in Microsoft Project and specialist design and research engineering packages.

Company

The City of London Corporation is a uniquely diverse organisation. We have a special role and wide remit that goes beyond that of an ordinary local authority with three main aims

  • to support and promote London as the world’s leading international financial and business centre and attract new business to the capital and the whole UK
  • to work in partnership with local communities to increase skills, employment and opportunities for all Londoners, including through the City Bridge Trust
  • to enhance the capital as a hub of culture, history and green spaces for Londoners – residents, workers, and visitors.
  • Many of these services are funded from our own resources, at no cost to the public, and benefit London and the nation.

We are centred at Guildhall but also have offices at Mansion House, Walbrook Wharf and outside the Square Mile in relation to our green spaces and other facilities.

The City Corporation is older than Parliament and our experience and tradition underpin our modern role as the provider of key services. Elected Members, headed by the Lord Mayor, operate on a non-party political basis.

While we have a long history, and many of our traditions and ceremonies continue to this day, we have a modern outlook that matches that of the City we serve.
