Salary up to £50k DOE + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced RF/Microwave Designer to design and develop the RF/Microwave technical solutions for MBDAs high quality, precision product range (Datalink, Telemetry, etc.) As part of the Electronic Engineering function of MBDA, you will be defining future strategies and roadmaps for RF/Microwave design solutions based on research and development activities in which you will also be actively involved.

Your role will be to create, analyse and prototype designs that meet challenging customer requirement within the constraints of limited physical space and harsh operating environments.

You will be managing all technical elements of the RF sub-systems, collaborating with other design disciplines and working alongside the Engineering Project Manager to ensure the On Time, On Cost, On Quality delivery of the technical solution.

Whilst the nature of the role is primarily technical, the successful candidate will still need to evidence excellent communication skills and have the confidence and gravitas to work across the business with a variety of senior partners to ensure successful delivery of challenging projects. In addition, knowledge sharing is key so there will be the many opportunities to assist in the coaching and development of less experienced engineers.

  • Architectures for medium to high power microwave transceivers, including catering for issues around full-concurrency operation.
  • Microwave radio frequency planning analysis.
  • Detailed modelling of link budgets and the derivation of top-level radio specs from these budgets.
  • Able to root cause issues in the measurement results of prototype radio platforms and recommend/implement solutions.
  • Practical application of radio sub-system building blocks, e.g. LNAs, Mixers, Filters, Synthesisers, HPAs etc., and how to apply them to a realisable radio, including temperature compensating biasing, power supply management, PCB layout and evaluation/testing of solutions.
  • Use of RF test equipment and understanding of the limitations. Must be able to merge real world measurements and theoretical predictions together to refine outcomes.
Whilst not essential, it would also beneficial if you could demonstrate some knowledge of detailed understanding of the Modem and DSP signal flow, discrete analogue circuit design and the use of mathematical modelling tools such as Matlab as well as Embedded and Miniaturised Antenna Design.
Experience of designing to meet Military Environmental requirements and standards e.g. DEF Stans and Mil Specs would also be advantageous.

Here's whats in it for youThis role provides you with a unique opportunity to apply your skills within a multi-disciplined team including Electronic Architects, Antenna Engineers, Systems Engineers, Firmware and Software developers and Digital Electronics Design Engineers.

You will be collaborating with other areas of the business, giving you a fantastic opportunity to develop both your knowledge and your professional network.

You will also have the opportunity to demonstrate your curiosity and enthusiasm to keep up-to-date with the latest engineering techniques and products as well as your ability to think outside of the box to implement innovative and effective engineering solutions.

You will gain exposure to complex and technologically advanced projects and products, which will provide you with stimulating and interesting experience; since you will be working with other highly talented and motivated engineers you will find yourself working in a friendly and supportive environment that encourages career progression and allows you to experience a real feeling of success.
