Design Engineer

Job Purpose

The candidates should have a high level of education and experience in this field and be able to work independently or as part of a small multi-disciplinary team. Due to the diversity of the work performed, experience in the following design disciplines is desirable.

Hardware Design

Microprocessor-based product designs (particularly NXP LPC and TI MSP families)

Integration of:

• Cellular radio-modules
• GNSS radio-modules
• ETX and COM-Express x86 modules

Peripheral integration:

• 1-Wire
• ADC
• CANbus
• DAC
• Ethernet
• GPIO
• I2C
• PCIe
• RS232/422/485
• SPI
• USB

PCB design (ideally using Altium):

•          Schematic capture
•          BOM generation
•          Component footprints
•          3D models
•          PCB layout

PSU design with DC/DC or Linear regulators

Knowledge of Li-ION/Li-Polymer battery packs and fuel gauges

3D CAD design experience to design product enclosures and/or liaise with external third-party design-houses

Knowledge of legal conformance requirements (i.e. CE-Marking, E-Marking, UKCA-Marking) and experience of taking products through approvals.

Software Design

Strong 'C coding knowledge

Development/Test applications using Visual Studio C# (for Windows)

Embedded real-time firmware

Peripheral communication/driver for 1-Wire, ADC, CANbus, DAC, Ethernet, GPIO, I2C, PCIe, RS232/422/485, SPI, USB devices

Operating Systems

Image creation and support of Windows 7, 8.1 and 10

Group policy and registry manipulation
