Salary: The salary range will be £58,404 - £63,483 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to lead and shape the Q-LABS initiative. Q-LABS aims to be a non-for-profit London-based innovation centre focussed on facilitating commercial activity in quantum computation and simulation. To establish a presence within the UK quantum sector, Q-LABS will form and manage a number of innovation activities including an innovation network that will engage with multiple external stakeholders to nurture partnerships and form an interdisciplinary community.
The Q-LABS innovation network will enable businesses based in the UK to respond to the increasing pace of investment and development in quantum computing (QC) and quantum simulation (QS) by creating a sustainable ecosystem of companies able to exploit the commercial quantum computing opportunities through knowledge exchange and networking.
QLABS innovation agenda include, but is not limited to:
- Activities that promote and further responsible innovation, diversity & inclusion, and outreach
- Knowledge exchange, collaborations, and policy engagement.
- Innovation challenges, and other events.
- Skills and training, including start-up programme
- Access to technical facilities.
Establishing an active innovation centre with a dynamic membership in line with parallel developments with in the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme will position our innovation centre to collaborate and partner other key stakeholders such as the National Quantum Computation Centre and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Hartree Centre. With a clear focus on commercially oriented hardware and software development, the Q-LABS innovation centre will be a complementary entity which ensures quantum computing is connected to business and promotes its early adoption.
Q-LABS is a virtual centre, hosted by the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN) and works to extend the vision and goals of UCL’s Quantum Science and Technology Institute (UCLQ). The Innovation Centre Director will be supported by, and work closely with the Innovation Network Manager, who supports on the establishing and maintaining of networks for Q-LABS.

The successful applicant will have personal practical experience of entrepreneurship, and/or experience of managing an innovation network or similar initiative, experience of strategic leadership working within industry and/or interdisciplinary academic units and experience of setting strategies and writing strategic planning documents for a senior technical audience. The successful applicant will have business development experience including identifying, initiating and maintaining project and partnership activity in the innovation/research space, experience of establishing successful networks and managing relationships between academic and the public, industry and the start-up community, as well as knowledge of the quantum technologies sector quantum computation and quantum simulation.
