Our Commitment to Flexible Working and Professional Development

The Systems Engineers at SCS work flexibly to achieve their results. This may mean a combination of home working, office-based working for collaborative discussions, and site-based working for engagement with the team delivering the works, as well as compressed hours or part-time. In short, we welcome the conversation!

The Systems Engineering community in SCS is supported by an active network of mentors and project leads across the teams and functions that our engineers work within. There is a real commitment to professional registration and certification, with all members of the Systems community encouraged and supported to attain an INCOSE SEP certification, IEng or CEng. Although the Systems Engineers may be spread throughout multiple teams, each with a different focus, the community of practice allows all engineers of the systems capability the opportunity to network, engage, share best practice, and learn. HS2 is a state-of-the-art, high-speed line critical for the UK’s low carbon transport future. It will provide much-needed rail capacity across the country, and is integral to rail projects in the North and Midlands – helping rebalance the UK economy.

Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture (SCS JV) are working together to deliver HS2 along the final 26.4km of HS2’s journey to its southern terminus in Euston. The JV will complete challenging works taking the railway from Northolt to Euston via Old Oak Common, building a variety of structures requiring expert precision and care. As 95% (21km) of the route will be in tunnel, SCS will be running seven tunnel boring machines (TBMs), of which five will operate simultaneously.
