Functional Safety Engineer

Job description:

The Opportunity
Working within the framework of global automotive standards, this role strives to continuously improve the response of the propulsion control system to hazards which can impact both users of and others within close proximity to our vehicles.

Key Performance Indicators
* Timely delivery of analysis, design and verification documentation to support new propulsion architectures
* Delivery of functional safety calibratables to the master PCM calibratables database
* Analysis of fleet robustness data to ensure correct failure identification and robustness to false detection
* Timely planning and execution of on-vehicle and hardware-in-the-loop verification testing
* Demonstration of co-ordination with supplier/s responsible for delivery of functional safety software

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
* Support the analysis of hazards present in the use of our vehicles and development of control system enhancements to mitigate these hazards.
* Assist and support the development of tools and methodologies to support the verification that control systems meet and/or exceed our safety goals
* Ensure robust and traceable documentation is developed to demonstrate the assessment of the hazards within the propulsion system's operating environment, safety goals derived to mitigate these hazards and verification of adherence to these safety goals.
* Support the development of capable, efficient, standardised and automated processes for verification
* Contribute to the test data acquisition, management and automated reporting

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
* Previous experience of working in a control system development environment
* Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
Desirable:
* Knowledge of propulsion system controls, ideally to a detailed level
* Problem solving skills
* Experience of any of ETAS INCA, CANalyzer, AVL Creta, D-Space Control Desk, Tableau or IBM DOORS/RTC is beneficial
* Knowledge of ISO26262, FMVSS124 or similar
