Pulsed Power Engineer

Salary: £31,931 to £44,166 per annum (dependent on skills and experience). A Specialist Allowance of up to £4000 per annum is also available for this role.

Location: Science and Technology Facilities Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire.

Contract Type: Permanent

About the role

This is a job where no two days are quite the same! You will be part of the Pulsed Power Supplies team on the ISIS proton accelerator, providing preventative and reactive maintenance of the power supplies and associated equipment, as well as installations and commissioning of bespoke systems.

Pulsed Power equipment delivers large amounts of energy in a short period of time. At ISIS, one the protons reach near the speed of light, a short magnetic kick extracts the beam from the synchrotron - requiring a 5 kA pulse with a 1µs pulsed width and 100ns rise time.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operation and maintenance of Pulsed Power supplies and associated equipment.
  • Fault finding, problem solving and contributing to improvement reviews.
  • Installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Collaborating with teams of engineers, scientists and key suppliers.

About you

You will have a HNC, or equivalent, as a minimum in Electrical or Electronic Engineering. You will have experience of maintenance, fault finding and repair of electrical equipment and experience of analogue, digital or programmable electronics.
