About the business and the role

Micro-X Ltd designs, develops and manufactures a range of innovative, ultra-lightweight, mobile x-ray imaging systems for medical and security applications. We launched our first product in 2016 and commercial sales will commence this year.

We are a fast-paced start-up located in the Tonsley Innovation Precinct, Clovelly Park SA. Tonsley is a hub for advanced manufacturing businesses and services, and has a significant research, education and training focus.

The High Voltage Electronics Engineer is a crucial role within the Micro-X engineering team, helping to produce high quality technical solutions across a range of Micro-X development programs.

Reporting to the Electronics Engineering Lead, you will be primarily focused on (but not limited to) developing high voltage electronics solutions for our products.  This work will include engineering activities from concept through to production and product delivery, such as architecting solutions, designing electronics, managing development partners, transferring designs to production and ensuring that we deliver safe, compliant and high-quality outcomes.  Ideal candidates will also have familiarity in medical devices, battery operated systems and designing to meet IEC60601 compliant products.

The role requires national and international travel and candidates must live in Adelaide or be willing to relocate.

Job tasks and responsibilities

As a start-up, we are moving rapidly with a keen cost focus. You will need a strong commercial mind-set and high energy, initiative and drive. Your tasks will include:

  • Designing High Voltage generators for X-Ray tube applications and supporting electronics.
  • Deriving electronics product architecture and system level requirements.
  • Schematics capture and PCB layout using Altium.
  • Development of tools and processes to assist in the manufacture of X-Ray generators.
  • Working with the production team to transfer designs to production and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Input to development program project schedules and budgets.
  • Ensuring engineering standards of quality, cost, safety, timeliness and performance are observed.
  • Adherence and improvements to the Micro-X quality system.
  • Liaising with customers, manufacturing and other stakeholders to drive customer focussed solutions.
  • Relationship building and managing positive customer-supplier relationships.

Skills and experience

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering (or similar) discipline. Ideal candidates will have an Honours degree.
  • Minimum 5 years' technical experience in Power Electronics product development and manufacture in a commercial environment of medium to high power (10kW+) designs.
  • Experience developing and working with high voltage systems (100kV+ preferred however candidates with all levels of experience are encouraged to apply).
  • Schematics capture and PCB layout using Altium.
  • Ability to write concise production procedures and assembly instructions.
  • Medical device industry experience is preferred, and working knowledge of the global defence, security and medical industries is highly valued.
