We’re looking for Safety Engineers in Bristol, Glasgow and Manchester, to help make equipment safter for the UK Armed Forces to operate. Working on projects that are critical to UK defence, find a rewarding role that offers stability, progression, and access to world-class training. If you’ve got big aspirations, our organisation will provide the tools to help you grow, learn, and achieve extraordinary things. That’s why we say, your ambition leads here.

About us

Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) is an integral part of UK defence. We equip and support the UK’s armed forces as they protect life at home and overseas. As part of this, we procure the newest protective clothing for the frontline. We also create smarter tech for intelligence systems. And we make safer, more effective vehicles for land, sea and air. Engineering is the largest business function in our organisation – and it’s one of the most fulfilling too. Because it’s only by delivering the most advanced, battle-winning technology that we can keep those on the front line at the top of their game. That’s why we stay inventive and create positive change, with a strong focus on sustainable sourcing and minimising environmental impact too. Ready to make an impact that matters to the nation?

About the role

If you’re looking for a job that really makes a difference, you’ll find that here at DE&S. We’re pleased to promote a variety of roles within our Safety Engineering team. Your role will be to provide advice, support and guidance to internal and external parties, advising on engineering design and development, and management of safety risk. You’ll identify solutions to reduce the risk to military personnel on the front line, and – dependent on which role you apply for – may be involved in creating and implementing safety management systems.

As you’ll discover, we’re serious about your continued professional development, and we’ll keep investing in your skills throughout your career with us.

About you

To be successful in your application, you must hold a minimum Level 4 qualification (e.g. Higher National Certificate) in an engineering or science subject, or have the equivalent industry experience, with demonstrable relevant experience. For some roles, it may also benefit your application if you can illustrate experience using a range of safety tools and techniques to provide advise on complex projects, for example Hazard Log Management or Risk Assessments.

The benefits

When you join DE&S, you’ll enjoy a generous employer pension contribution of around 27%. You’ll benefit from a clear career path with plenty of opportunities for progression. As well as access to specialist training and funded professional qualifications, you can expect plenty of support from colleagues and mentors. And you’ll be welcome to join a wide range of employee networks, including the Women’s Inclusive Network, Race & Culture Network, Pride Network, Disability Network, and more. We recognise that the best people for the job may have commitments outside of work, so we’re pleased to promote flexible and hybrid working to support our colleagues in balancing work and home life.

Please also note that some of the positions available will be open to Sole UK Nationals only.
