What to expect

Body Engineering is one of the larger teams within the JLR PD organisation. The department has complete responsibility for the design and development of all Jaguar and Land Rover Interior and Exterior systems from concept design through to volume production. With an increasing emphasis on virtual development techniques the department utilises advanced CAD and CAE to support the product development process. A role within Body Engineering involves working with a wide range of materials and construction techniques, challenging functional and cost targets and significant liaison with all internal areas of our business as well as external component and system suppliers.

Initially reporting to the departmental Instrument Panel or Console Group Leader within the Cockpit Systems CoC area but seconded to the programme specific cockpit module leader for the duration of that project development cycle.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

* The engineering and release of the IP & Console trim components.
* Integration of all components (from other PMST's / CoC's) within the IP & console assembly.
* Support the Optical Quality design process to agree gaps and interface condition.
* Work with internal and ODEC CAD and PMST Engineering teams from other areas within Body and the other CoC's.
* Manage the various suppliers in support of delivery of the programme milestones.
* Daily interface / programme communication will be to the Cockpit Module Leader.
* Weekly liaison with the cockpit test and development engineers to ensure test plan is on track.
* Owner of programme specific DFMEA - updating and tracking progress.
* Involved in weekly optical quality reviews to reach approval of gap plans and grey book.
* Creating and updating Bill of Materials, currently via ERS into WERS.
* Manage the component timing plan with relevant suppliers.
* Component cost tracking with aid of purchasing team.
* Ultimate sign off of component PSW with STA and supplier teams.
* Track component weights with objective of optimising weight reduction.
* Liaise with cockpit and safety CAE team to ensure design will achieve FDJ targets.


What you'll need

Skills, experience and qualifications required

This position requires a high level of discipline to coordinate the multiple activities across a range of components and will provide the successful candidate with a challenging opportunity to stretch them within the role. As such, the successful candidate will need to be an effective communicator and have strong organisational and numerical skills.

Previous experience in Body Engineering, environment would be beneficial but not compulsory.

A good understanding of the AIMS, Digi buck and WERS processes are required. An understanding of Engineering Standards, S-DOTS and Test Procedures would be beneficial.

Flexibility in being prepared to work at Gaydon or other locations depending on project requirements.
