What to expect

Body Chassis Engineering is one of the larger teams within the JLR PE organisation. The department has complete responsibility for the current and future design and development of all Jaguar and Land Rover BIW, Interior and Exterior & Subframe systems from pre-concept through to volume production. With an increasing emphasis on Systems Engineering and virtual development techniques, the department utilises advanced AVA CAD and CAE, together with laboratory tests and physical prototyping, to support the development of new products.

This role within the Vehicle Structures Technical Discipline involves working with a wide range of materials and construction techniques, challenging functional and commercial targets and significant liaison, both with many internal areas of our business and with external component and service suppliers.

Key Accountabilities

* Request-for-Quote preparation
* Obtaining and collating quotes
* Finance approval for spend
* Purchase orders obtained and spent
* Arranging transport and necessary dockets using JLR processes
* Arranging meetings internal and external
* Minuting agreements
* Clear communications in plain English basic engineering terms (jargon and acronym avoidance)
* Obtaining JLR material (e.g. sheet steel)
* Obtaining external material (e.g. bespoke adhesive)
* Obtaining (and basic quality checking of) technical reports from internal JLR parties
* Obtaining (and basic quality checking of) technical reports from external parties
* Manage storage and retention of project physical properties during the project
* Chasing and pushing
* Building cooperative and cordial networks and relationships
* Adhering to a high level plan
* Inventive technical thinking within the basic constraints of the project
* Escalation of only critical issues, but quickly and earnestly
* File all documents electronically and centrally in a logical directory structure in a JLR shared drive
* Use e-mail as primary written means of communication
* Meetings / spoken communication in person or using Teams or using telephones

What you'll need

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

You'll demonstrate subject matter familiarity and the ability to form a network of working relationships (internal and external to JLR) where others deliver in the absence of any formal subordination. You'll be able to demonstrate effective people skills and strong project management skills with experience of managing the delivery of multiple projects to tight deadlines.


* Proven multitasking and planning capabilities with a perseverant approach to activity management.
* Experience of the mass production of body structures and associated processes
* Mechanical design background / structural engineering
* Basic ability to use CATIA V5 or V6 to explore parts and assemblies
* Ability to use a CAD-lite system (e.g. Enovia Product Explorer)
* Degree in Engineering or comparable qualification
* Self-motivated and able to deliver diverse tasks with minimum supervision
* Ability to quickly learn new administrative software and processes
* Experience of designs delivering structural performance (durability, strength, stiffness, NVH, weight, cost)
* Excellent spoken and written communication
* Ability to summarise concisely and briefly in written and spoken form
* Command of Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, e-mail and web conferencing
* Basic grasp of main underlying principles of sheet metal bake hardening, adhesive cure, projection welding, forging, paintshop sealing, BIW assembly for mass production and the production of the raw materials and components of metallic body structures.
* Ability to continuously maintain a consolidated list of high level open points / to-do list.
