From crime operations to sporting events, our technical teams provide the vital support that enables us to oversee the safety of our citizens.

As a Network Integration Technician, you’ll join the Operational Support Unit that sits within the Operational Technology group based at Newlands Park. You’ll be a member of a team of 45 dedicated engineers, and using surveillance cameras, satellite communications and other technologies, you’ll provide support across a range of requirements including demonstrations, sporting and ceremonial events and counter terrorism operations.

Instrumental in the delivery of effective technical support and solutions, your responsibilities will be many and varied, and include assisting in the development and support of innovative IP network solutions to meet the requirements of front-line policing operations.

This is a practical role where you’ll make best use of your technical talents and flexibility, as well as your excellent understanding and experience of network security and firewall technologies. You should possess a good understanding of the technologies used in IP systems, surveillance and RF transmission, including hardware and software development. We’ll also expect you to use your extensive knowledge and experience to support existing systems and develop technical solutions to support evolving operational requirements.

An understanding of CCTV technology, telecommunications, audio/visual systems and a relevant qualification would be highly desirable, and as you’ll often be required to work outside office hours, we’ll expect you to be flexible as you meet operational demands. With this in mind, you should have excellent organisational and time management skills, and a full UK driving licence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and support of innovative IP network solutions to meet customer requirements for front-line policing operations
  • To apply a good understanding of the technologies used in IP systems, surveillance and RF Transmission, Hardware and Software development.
  • To demonstrate a can-do and flexible approach to work, occasionally working outside normal office hours when needed.
  • To be able to work in difficult and challenging environments To be prepared to attend relevant training courses and seminars when required
  • To ensure that all project, service and design related material is kept up to date, accurate and complete
  • To be accountable for their areas of responsibility and fully discharge their duties in accordance to the demands placed on the section;
  • To be responsible for their own self development and personal effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate good communication qualities, both written and orally, that are always unambiguous, accurate and has impact, especially when advising or liaising in matters of technical support
  • To work as part of a team and to actively integrate into a team building environment
  • Be required to drive Metropolitan Police Vehicles
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required by line management.

Vetting

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.
